Unimodem Half Duplex Audio Device Driver Free Download Xp Install Update
I recently reinstalled my operating system on my Dell Dimension PC, and allowed for Automatic updates. Previously I did not allow the updates. I use very slow dial-up on a BCM 56k. After the BCM update install, my modem went much faster at about 40kbps, however, I lost the Unimodem half-duplex sound driver configuration.
After the BCM automatic update, my modem no longer sounds the connection audio as it previously did. I checked and the following Driver Files still exist where they belong: My audio driver is not my issue. The tiny speaker still works in my Modem When I dial-up. Otherwise, the rest of my sound works fine, so I don't think I need an audio driver. What disappeared on my upgrade was my unimodem half-duplex driver, and all else remained the same after the upgrade.
Here is what happens. I frequently reinstall my entire OS by formatting my hard drive. After the initial install, and installing the provided Dell drivers, my modem works fine, but at a slower speed. When I dial-up I hear the dialing through my External Audio Speakers, which I prefer because I have hearing restriction and can hear it better amplified, than through the modem speaker.
When I install the BCM windows update, it speeds up my modem transfer rate, which I like, but it removes my unimodem half-duplex sound driver, which means I can no longer hear my dial-up connection to know all is well. The sound does still come directly from my modem card, however, because of where my PC is located under my desk, I can barely hear the connection being made, and can not use that sound for diagnostic purposes if I fail to connect.
It helps to hear the connecting to remind me in case the phone line is disconnected or the phone company disconnects and provides their automated voice message on how to restore our service.
Not yet tried to use the dell service tag to get Dell Drivers. Don't know how to specify that tag, or if it would provide other drivers than I already downloaded, but will check that next. Meanwhile if anyone has a useful answer as to how I can get my external sound back without sacrificing my increased BPS speed, I would like to hear it.
I don't believe it's the Unimode half-duplex driver although I could be wrong. My XP3 box has a "Unimodem full-duplex audio driver" showing in Device Manager under "Sound, video and game controllers," and I've never had the modem sounds come through the main speakers. It should have been installed by default, but if not, you might want to add it using the "Add" button. I suspect that your previous modem driver -- which limited your connect speed -- had the external speaker checkbox but that the new driver -- which has higher connect speed -- does not.
It's probably not very satisfactory, but you can increase the volume of the modem's tiny speaker a bit by using the "Extra initialization commands" box on the "Advanced" tab of the modem Properties dialog. There are two relevant commands, the M command which determines when the speaker is on and the L command which sets the speaker's volume:.
In the "Extra initialization commands" box, commands are entered preceded with "AT" without quotes and there are no spaces. Thus, for example, if you want to hear the most sounds at the highest volume which unfortunately is usually not very high , you would set L3 and M3 by entering the following in the box:.
